The KELP program is the product of an intensive collaboration of numerous resources on campus "to honor the challenges and opportunities of the sophomore year with support, community and resources."

 

Mission Statement

The Sophomore Year Connection program seeks to: increase academic expectations and the level of academic engagement of students in their sophomore year, create a greater sense of belonging to and membership in the CSUMB community, and foster student commitment to institutional vision and values, thereby increasing students' persistence and retention.

KELP FAQs

What is KELP?

KELP stands for Knowledge, Engagement, Leadership, and Participation. KELP is a program especially designed to help sophomores succeed at CSUMB.

Who qualifies for KELP?

Students who are in their second year of study, have earned 30-59 credits, or will have earned 30-59 credits by the end of the fall 2011 semester qualify to participate.

Why should I participate in KELP?

If you participate, you will make new friends, network with key staff on campus, and develop a success plan that is tailor made for you!

Are there any rewards for participation?

Yes, you will have the opportunity to compete for scholarships in the range of $250-$1,000. The scholarships will go to the students who participate in the greatest number of KELP activities.

What activities do you sponsor?

We sponsor a wide variety of social and educational activities. Once you join the program, you will get an official list of KELP events, but you can also get KELP credit for attending other events.
